Transport

A double bill fusion of the one-woman chamber opera, Another Sunrise (Heggie/Scheer), and the rarely performed oratorio, Judas Maccabeus (Handel). This new take on a chamber opera utilizes interdisciplinary story-telling, staging music, dance, interactive projections, and ASL. This work is based on the memoir, I Survived Auschwitz, by Krystyna Żywulska.

"As the title Transport suggests, we intend to lead the audience through a created memory of a group of people using the music of Handel, as the piece says, “to vent our sorrows gives relief.” While this piece is presented with a Jewish lens of stories old and new, it is not a uniquely Jewish idea. Many communities of people have struggled against oppression and can find resonance in this story."
