MIXT: A Living Gallery

MIXT: A Living Gallery is a community creation event. Each venue is transformed into an interactive and immersive creative laboratory, where artists and audiences collaborate in a celebration of our diversity.
Poets, Dancers, Painters, Musicians, Actors, Writers, Feelers, Viewers and Listeners offer curated performances, along with an original soundscape and visual elements to create a completely unique and temporary creative landscape.
MIXT is an annual production for The Why Collective, and often features excerpts from our projects in development!
Artists, hobbyists, and humans of all disciplines and experience levels are invited to submit original works, to be included in the curation of our annual “A Living Gallery," each exploring a single theme. For more information, email thewhycollective@gmail.com or submit our contact form.

2024 For Love is Strong:
a Happening
This iteration of MIXT based the entire Living Gallery around the headlining titular work by David Lang, featuring original choreography by Mark Bankin and company. Soundscape oscillated between moments of silence, whispers, laughter, crying, and of course a 12-person chamber choir performing "For Love is Strong."
2025 MIXT: A Living Gallery
loneliness | waiting
MIXT: A Living Gallery reclaimed its namesake in 2025. This iteration happened in two parts. First, at The Red Door (Holy Trinity Lutheran Church) and second, at The DiMenna Center for Classical Music. Both featured "living statues" who remained on their pedestal for the entire 3-hour event, and transformed throughout the night.
